Another week, another great album to feature on vinyl. This week we’re heading back to 1973 with an album that I’d hope would be in a lot of collections. There’s no denying that Paul McCartney has had the most successful solo career out of The Fab 4 after The Beatles broke up.
Post Beatles, Paul took flight with Wings and put out some great albums, non bigger than “Band on the Run” in 1973. So big in fact it became the top-selling studio album of 1974 in the United Kingdom and Australia.
The album was mostly recorded in Lagos, Nigeria, as McCartney wanted to make an album in an exotic location. Shortly before departing for Lagos, drummer Denny Seiwell and guitarist Henry McCullough left the group. With no time to recruit replacements, McCartney went into the studio with just his wife Linda and Denny Laine. McCartney therefore played bass, drums, percussion and most of the lead guitar parts.
