A once-in-a-lifetime duet

New audio has surfaced with one of Rock N’ Rolls biggest couples. Even though Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love initially shared a bond and admiration for each others music before getting married, they actually only played on stage together once.

It was September 8, 1993 at a Rock against Rape benefit gig at Club Lingerie in Los Angeles. neither were scheduled to play the benefit, but after a couple of other performances from other bands, Love took to the Stage to perform “Doll Parts” and “Miss World.” That’s when she introduced Kurt to the crowd as, “my husband Yoko.” Love also said “watch closely, this is the first and last time you’ll ever see this happen.”

The two covered “Pennyroyal Tea,” which would end up on In Utero, and Leadbelly’s “Where Did You Sleep Last Night,” which would be covered by Nirvana on their appearance on MTV Unplugged.

Courtney was right, this was the first and only time the couple appeared live together on stage.
