Friday was a super sad day in music world with the loss of Adam “MCA” Yauch.

I went down to Lollapalooza in 2009 so I could check out The Beastie Boys. I had never seen them and was super excited to see they were pegged as one of the headliners. They were suppose to play at the same time as Tool, but seeing as I had seen Tool, I’d give up another chance to see them in order to check out The Beasties!

2009 was the year MCA was diagnosed with cancer, and I never got the chance to see them live. I know that sounds selfish, and to an extent I am being a little selfish, but when you grow liking a band so much and think you are finally going to get the chance to see them, it’s tough not to be.

The one thing that has been nice to see is all the bands that are paying tribute to MCA and how inspiration he, and The Beastie Boys were and still are.

Example #2, and I’m not even a fan of Coldplay, but this is a great homage to MCA!

The salute’s didn’t stop there either. Saturday Night Live honoured Yauch’s memory Saturday with an exerpt from a Beastie Boys performance on the show, and HBO’s broadcast of the Rock and Roll induction ceremony on Saturday night was dedicated to the fallen musician.

I can remember listening to the Beastie Boys while other kids were listening to Warrant and Ratt. I remember thinking that Check Your Head and Ill Communication were two of the coolest albums I had ever heard and I still remember the first time I ever saw the Sabotage video.

Friday was a sad for me (here I go again being selfish). Friday was a sad day for anyone who has ever listened to music. Friday sucked.

It’s just easier to blame it on something else, so why would you ever take responsibility for spawning such horrible offspring.

Music is easy to blame.

There’s a video that has been circling the internets as of late about how The Beastie Boys (R.I.P. MCA) use to terrify parents.

Here’s what I’m getting at.

People are still blaming Rock, Metal and Hip Hop for corrupting young people.

Well parents, have a look at this and tell me that it’s okay for your daughters to idolize Rhianna.

I might sound like a hypocrite in this blog, but enough with blaming Rock musicians with this crap, especially when this same pop star is willingly going back to the guy that beat her down.

But I’m sure he only did it because he loved her.

I don’t need to show you all the mistakes in the comment, kind of like you don’t need to show me all the mistakes in my blog.

But something I do want to talk about is the concert comments.

See, what happens is a company like Live Nation calls us up and says “Hey, we are thinking of bring (insert band here) to Regina, do you think it will sell?”

We reply, depending on the show, “Yes,” or “No.”

Then they say, “Would you like to present the concert?” Depending on our answer, which will lead us to saying yes, since there’s a good chance they are asking us for a reason.

This is when we go on the radio and say “Regina’s Rock Station, 104.9 The Wolf is proud to present (insert band we were asked about) at (insert location) on (insert date).”

We aren’t actually concert promoters, we promote concerts.

Anywho, I thought I lost my blog entry. Which I did, but then the boss told where to go. Seriously, he gave me my log in site again so i could get in and entertain the masses with my witty articles on nothing.

So I had a few good ideas for you this week, but since it’s almost 6 on Friday, I’ll save them for next week if I remember.

So until then, I want you to read this and prepare for something almost as bad as a Zombie apocalypse!

That’s right, it’s beer.

Some nerds at The University of Illinois did a study with 40 men and found that the ones who downed 2 pints of beer before a test fared better their sober counterparts.

Maybe I should have said quiz since two pints could potentially make you pass (but really fail) another type of test.

So the nerds made some people down a couple pints before a QUIZ and they ended up doing better than their sober counterparts. Not just better, but the drunkards solved 40% more brain teasers than soberites (is that a word?).

But just when you think it couldn’t get any better, it does. They also solved them quicker!

Then the nerds found out the optimum alcohol level for enhanced creative problem solving.

0.07!

So have a breathalyzer handy for you next test.

Or if you plan on working in radio, because after all, we all all know being a little tipsy makes you the funniest person ever!
